Beat mis

A new guest curator has joined the splusp group! Erik van Lieshout presents an album recorded by a Catholic Youth choir in the south of The Netherlands.

"Over the years this LP has provoked some very mixed reactions in my circles (Art academy students and the Art scene), on the few occasions I played a track as a dj some people had pretty traumatic memories of these songs..... So don't take it too seriously and don't forget to make the flowers sing!!!"

Archives

The splusp archives have been re-organized. In menu on the right you can see the archives being built up automatically in chronological order. In addition to that I kept the thumbnail archive and I will keep adding material by theme to that, but not everything, mainly sharity specials. The old version of this month's page can be found there like this:

Dancing in winter

Dansons aux sports d'hiver
Partice (Fr) writes:

"Dansen in de lente" was named "Dansons aux sports d'hiver" in France. It lacked the Leon Hardy track but had another track by Eddie Warner named "The next time".

Patrice was also kind enough to send us a cover scan and the missing Warner-song:

Dancing in spring

" 'Dansen in de lente' (Dancing in spring) has become a recording which invites you spontaneously to put aside your table and chairs and to choose your partner for a nice dance. Eddie Warner and his orchestra take care of the music, assisted by The Nelson Boys" in a very special spontaneous way. They use their voices as an addition to the orchestra. They don't use words as most vocal groups do, but use their voices as instruments ..."
Etc, etc... I bought this EP for 50 cents in a charity shop, merely because of it's front cover, but the music is nice enough to share. After intensive physical and digital cleaning, still some pops and clicks occur. My apologies :-)

Margriet records

Radio Benelux

Because of the music and the fact that "It's sunday may 7th" we know exactly when this took place: sunday afternoon, may 7th 1978, between 16:00 and 17:00. There is some interference because we were living just outside the transmitters range.

Radio Benelux, verzoekplatenprogramma (offline)
This morning I was looking through my old cassettes to see if I could find any evidence that I was making radio ever since my parents gave me a radio-cassette recorder, in order to digitalize it. Here's something nice I've found. It's not one of my own shows, but a recording from a radio pirate Radio Benelux, who was broadcasting in the center of The Netherlands during the seventies. By the sounds of their jingles they had "borrowed" the name from a Belgian radio station. You'll first hear one of my cousins requesting "A record by ELO for all ELO-fans". I remember that we would listen together with 5 or 6 kids to this broadcast, taking a turn in phoning to the station to request ELO-songs for each other to make sure they would play them. I had forgotten that we ever recorded such a call. Later you'll hear this and other of our requests announced by the DJ Felix de Haas, who was very fond of jingles (like most of them/us in these days) and who could never get the pronunciation of our names and of "Electric Light Orchestra" right.
